Nightclubs (for want of a better expression)
|
Ilford Palais, Room at the Top, Lacy Lady, Barons, Hollywood’s, Lotus (Forest Gate) to name just a few.
Any of these, or any not mentioned, bring back interesting memories that you’d like to share for general interest and amusement..?

Flamingo Road (opposite The Villa)
Back in the early mid 80's most clubs insisted on a dress code. this place never and is was a complete fucking dive, full of women with little or no virtue.
Good fun though.

Frequented a few of the east London/Essex ones. Also Charlie Chans, which I’m not sure was anyones lists, and was virtually over the road to me.

Used to love a bit of clubbing Back in the day, for me it was
TOTS 2000 (sarfend) (90s) Dukes (chelmsford) Worked At Kings on canvey for 4 years Zeus (chelmsford) Time (basildon) Storm (southend) (early 200s)
Pretty much anywhere in Essex.
Ikon/diva/Jaks in bas Vegas (and the one in southampton) Martines (eastleigh) Monico (canvey)
Gallery @ Turnmills Bagleys Ministry of sound Slinky @ opera.house bournmouth Camden pal
Plus all the ibiza clubs (been 5 times).
Never took pills or any of that shit. Just loved the tunes.
Really miss clubbing... but far too old for that caper now. Still love the tunes. Happened upon funkysx radio station recently (there's an app) Some.brilliant stuff on there

“Powerhouse Stratford “
Was a brilliant place.
You used to have skin heads of Canning Town
And Rude Buoys of Hackney, all in one place.
Me and my mates were on the ‘bumbles’ big time

Not really a nightclub but back in the day, a place guaranteed to have a night of dancing, fighting and drinking. Bank holidays at the Bali Hai in Margate.

About the time we was going to Flicks and the the Goldmine there was another club on the Isle of Sheppey where Froggy Steve Walsh Robbie Vincent etc would visit but the name escapes me.

Stayed in Blackpool a couple of times in the early 90's when we played the scouse cunts away. The term 'a pint and a punch-up' was invented for the dive. Always thought the scene of my early holidays, Dymchurch, was grim until I visited there.

Mate’s grandparents owned a hotel in Blackpool so used to frequently travel up there for weekends in the late 90s.
Had some decent bars like Branigans and a couple of huge nightclubs. One was called the Palace. It was stag do/hen party heaven for people back then. Huge amount of Birds from Glasgow especially.
Felt like a lively place during that time but stopped off at Blackpool (Not for clubbing) on my way back from Liverpool a couple of years ago and like many British towns it felt like it had seen better days.
Not sure if the nightlife is any better.

Ilford palais definitely brings back good memories. Started off going there when I was 15/16. Then faces Country club, also jungle was superb. Legends in barking Stop outs in Ilford Chains in barking Hollywoods Room at the top/ penthouse Powerhouse Stratford Gass club Leicester Square Koo club Coliseum There was one in Canning Town called Astor club. Great music but you didn’t want to be from out of the area in there. Valentino’s in Canning Town was also good.

Benjys
Bottom of your list, so probably not in too bad an order. A shithole of the highest order. More a boozer than club man, but do remember Hollywoods in the early 90's, being charged a jacks for a bottle of Bud in the VIP area upstairs. Ilford Palais (The Island as it became iirc). Also Rain (??), Southend. Was another Hackney Marshes way. Froggies??? Also The Cube up in scouse land.
